Based on the Colleges Ontario Occupation Specific Language Training framework, the Workplace Communication Skills for Educators program supports internationally trained and practiced educators to develop effective communication skills for Ontario-based education service contexts. As a learner in this program, you will develop cultural-linguistic awareness and competence to effectively plan and implement learning experiences as well as evaluate and communicate their outcomes with various stakeholders such as students, families, colleagues, administrators, and community partners. Through various communication activities, dialogue practice, role-play and simulation, you will develop communication skills and strategies for cultivating collaborative relationships with various stakeholders in your workplace and develop skills and strategies for ongoing professional learning and career development in the sector.
Who Should Enroll On This Program
This course has no formal prerequisites, but registrants should be internationally trained and practiced Educators working in PK-12, PSE, and Community-Based teaching & learning environments who are transitioning to workplace contexts in Ontario, Canada or otherwise transitioning to English- or French-speaking workplace contexts.

The Workplace Communication Skills for Educators: Navigating the Education System course is tailored for internationally trained and practiced educators transitioning to workplace contexts in Ontario, Canada, or other English- or French-speaking environments. Through a balance of synchronous and asynchronous learning, educators will develop and apply communication strategies vital for navigating education systems, collaborating with stakeholders, planning and evaluating learning experiences, and communicating their outcomes. The course is structured around key themes, including exploration of education system structures and spaces, stakeholders and collaborators, and communication strategies for planning, implementing, and evaluating learning experiences. Educators will develop a professional learning portfolio made up of transferable assets and job aids, and engage in stakeholder communication simulations, as well as develop an implementation, evaluation, and communication plan for a learning solution relevant to their professional context.

Through a balance of synchronous and asynchronous learning, educators will develop essential communication strategies for cultivating equitable and inclusive learning spaces, planning impactful learning experiences, conducting effective learner assessment and evaluation, and managing digital technologies in the learning environment. Learners will have the opportunity to explore the latest applications of technology for learning, including communication strategies for leading online learning environments, and will have an opportunity to explore the burgeoning field of Artificial Intelligence in education. Educators will develop a professional learning portfolio made up of transferable assets and job aids, and engage in stakeholder communication simulations, as well as develop an implementation, evaluation, and communication plan for a learning solution relevant to their professional context.

Through a balance of synchronous and asynchronous learning, educators will develop communication strategies that foster effective collaboration between stakeholders, including strategic community partners, students, and families. Educators will also develop communication strategies for professional co-working and collaboration with organizational leadership and operational staff, including strategies that cultivate collaborative professional inquiry and advocate for continuous organizational improvement. Educators will also develop communication strategies and techniques for self-promotion, career planning, and networking. Throughout the course, educators will develop a professional learning portfolio made up of transferable assets and job aids, and engage in stakeholder communication simulations, as well as develop an implementation, evaluation, and communication plan for a learning solution relevant to their professional context.
