What are Additional Qualifications?

Additional Qualification (AQ) courses allow Ontario Certified Teachers to:

  • Deepen knowledge in a specific subject area
  • Add a new division (Primary, Junior, Intermediate, Senior)
  • Earn a Specialist designation (Part 1, Part 2, Specialist)
  • Enhance leadership and instructional expertise

All successful course completions are reported directly to the Ontario College of Teachers.

Information for New Graduates

If you completed your BEd, MT, or MA CSE in Ontario and have applied for Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) membership, you may register for an AQ course once your program (including practicum) is complete.

You must be a member in good standing by the end of the AQ course for completion to be reported to OCT.

If you completed your teacher education outside Ontario, you must be an OCT member in good standing before registering.
