Teaching in Ontario’s Catholic Schools

The Teaching in Ontario’s Catholic Schools course is designed to prepare you to teach in Catholic schools in the province.

If you’re planning to teach in Ontario’s Catholic schools, this course is an important first step. It’s often required before applying for teaching jobs with Catholic school boards, and many boards expect it as part of the hiring process.

Catholic school boards typically prefer to hire Catholic teachers. Most will also ask you to provide a reference from your parish priest when you apply.

This course is only available to OISE Teacher Candidates in the Master of Teaching (MT) or Master of Arts in Child Study and Education (MA-CSE) programs. It runs once each academic year (September to December), with scheduling designed to work around your program’s Fall practicum block.

When you successfully complete the course, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion and a final grade. Note: the course will not appear on your official U of T transcript in ACORN.

Tip: Most Catholic boards expect teachers to complete Religious Education Part 1 (an Additional Qualification course) within their first two years of teaching.
