Teaching in Ontario’s Catholic Schools
In order to teach in Catholic schools, teacher candidates require this course as a prerequisite for job interviews, and as a condition of employment for Catholic School Boards in Ontario.
Catholic School Boards presently only hire Catholic teachers and most Boards require a reference from your parish priest as part of your job application process.
The course is offered once per academic year between September-December, and every effort is made so that the course dates will be accessible to all of our teacher education candidates. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of professional learning and a final grade. The course will not appear on your official transcript.
Tip – While this course is required to obtain employment in Catholic School Boards, most Boards also require teachers to take the Religious Education Part 1 Additional Qualification Course during the first two years of teaching.
What You'll Learn
This course is recommended for teacher candidates with a demonstrated commitment to the Catholic faith who are planning to apply to Catholic school boards.
An exploration of the Catholic worldview uses official curriculum documents for Religious and Family Life Education as well other foundational pedagogical documents in the Ontario Catholic educational community. A metacognitive approach will be taken in the discussion of course themes and concepts, while making explicit links between theory and practice.
