Online Learning Environments

This course is designed to provide education professionals with an opportunity to examine current techniques and technologies employed in designing and delivering learning solutions online.

You will explore how to create engaging online spaces for learning using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Virtual Learning Environments (VLE), and how to introduce elements that enrich the learner experience through both synchronous and asynchronous learning as well as alternate media. You will examine the key role of communication and support, social learning and peer collaboration. Instructional strategies will enable development of digital literacy, research and evaluation skills, and presentation and interpersonal skills required to foster virtual collaborative interactions.

Course requirements: The course requires a computer and online access to the OISE course environment, as well as the ability to connect online to other websites and resources as required. Important: You will require the ability to download tools and software in order to experiment with various technologies. Additionally, you must have comfort level with creating accounts with various social media sources (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.).

Course Format

This 7-week course runs fully online in a blend of asynchronous and optional synchronous (live) sessions. It is facilitator-led and organized into weekly modules that include readings, discussions, and assignments with set due dates.

You’ll need a reliable internet connection and a modern web browser to access course materials. Optional live sessions (if offered) will be announced within the course site.
