An introduction to the higher education workplace for new and aspiring post-secondary professionals

If you’ve started working in a college, polytechnic or university or you’re considering a career move to post-secondary, the Serving Students in Higher Education program provides you with a greater understanding of the complex higher education working environment, and the practical skills needed to address current issues facing campuses and students in the 21st century.

Whether you frequently interact with students in your role or work behind-the-scenes in an operational capacity, you play a part in creating and improving conditions that support student success, well-being and effective teaching and learning environments. You’ll have the opportunity to explore your role in the broader organizational context and share experiences with other professionals throughout this program.

Developed by Canada’s leading faculty of education*, this program is delivered by OISE facilitators and industry professionals. The program can be completed within one year and is 100% online, enabling you to participate from anywhere in the world.

The program can be completed comfortably within one year, or it is possible to fast-track and complete within eight (8) months.

PSE-IPE – What's a Campus? An Introduction to Contemporary Post-Secondary Education Environments

Investigate post-secondary environment in Canada and examine current sector-wide issues and pressures. Define what constitutes a healthy campus community to enable both student and professional achievement.

PSE-EML – Engaging the Modern Learner

Examine diversity in student communities with focus on inclusion of underrepresented groups. Explore student motivations and the student lifecycle from admissions and orientation, supporting learning and well-being through to graduation.

PSE-TLE – Post-Secondary Teaching & Learning: Instructional Strategies and Engagement Trends and Issues

Determine the needs of various stakeholders to enable the teaching and learning environment. Identify potential barriers to effective teaching and learning environments and explore strategies and practices to mitigate them. Recommend the conditions for and attributes of effective teaching and learning environments.
