Program Overview and Courses

The program is comprised of four (4) online courses including a final capstone project. The first three courses focus on curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment. The fourth and final course includes a capstone project which can be completed either in-school or as an applied project. To support the application of your learning in the capstone project, you will be paired with a subject-specific mentor who is a practicing IB educator.

After successful completion of all four required courses, you will earn an OISE Certificate in International Education for IB Qualification (Diploma Programme) and be eligible to register for the IB certificate in teaching and learning with the International Baccalaureate Organisation*.

*In order to receive the IB certificate in teaching and learning you must register for the certificate. The IB will send instructions to pay the registration fee of US$265 after receiving confirmation from OISE that you completed the program of study.

 

 

Gain a foundational understanding of the role and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme in this six-week, 100% online introductory* course. Modelled on IB learning principles, you will practice the IB inquiry cycle (Inquire-Act-Reflect) as you become familiar with the IB’s mission, learner profile, curriculum framework and foundational learning principles.

Examine how the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum design process upholds the IB mission and philosophy within the K-12 international education context. Modelled on IB learning principles, you will practice the IB inquiry cycle (Inquire-Act-Reflect) as you explore theories supporting effective learning activity design in the IB Diploma Programme. You’ll develop teaching strategies, design differentiated instructional strategies, and select/evaluate appropriate learning materials.

Explore the purposes and principles of assessment in International Baccalaureate (IB) programming, and practice designing equitable assessment opportunities that align with the IB’s mission, vision and philosophy. You’ll follow the IB inquiry cycle (Inquire-Act-Reflect) as you explore and design assessment tasks and evaluation tools, create differentiated assessments and develop strategies for providing effective feedback to students and parents about progress and achievement in the IB Diploma Programme.

As the final course in the OISE Certificate in International Education for International Baccalaureate (Diploma Programme), you’ll participate in two distinct learning components: Professional Learning (three modules), and a Capstone Project. You’ll continue to practice the IB inquiry cycle (Inquire-Act-Reflect) as you examine the principles, processes and impact of reflective practice, and explore the value of collaborative working and communities of practice in professional practice.

Admission Requirements 

To be granted admission to the program, you must meet the following requirements:

 

 
A)

BACHELOR’S DEGREE

showing 8 half credits (or international equivalent) in your chosen specialization (See IB Diploma Programme specialization options)*

If the language of instruction for your Bachelor’s degree was not English, you must provide proof of an IELTS English proficiency test with a minimum score of 6.5 in all components (or equivalent).

RECOGNIZED TEACHING QUALIFICATION

Successful completion of a recognized teaching qualification from any jurisdiction in the world.
