The OISE Continuing and Professional Learning (CPL) team recently had the opportunity to visit Henry Kelsey Senior Public School in Scarborough, where we were warmly welcomed by Principal Nicole Miller and her team. The visit offered a valuable window into how strategic planning and school improvement efforts are being brought to life in a dynamic learning environment.

Over the course of the afternoon, we engaged in conversations with educators, observed real-time practices, and explored how the school is aligning its goals with the TDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan (2024–2028) and the Student Learning Strategy to Combat Hate and Racism.

The visit focused on three main learning goals:

  • Observing Improvement-Oriented Planning in Action: We witnessed how instructional leadership and improvement planning are actively shaping student learning experiences and school culture.

  • Learning from Leadership in Context: Principal Miller and her team shared how they are bridging broader board-wide goals with the unique needs of their local school community.

  • Participating in an Immersive Learning Experience: Through meaningful dialogue and classroom observations, we gained a deeper appreciation for what it means to “live the plan”at the school level.

The visit left our team energized and inspired, reinforcing the importance of connecting system-level strategy with the lived experiences of educators and students.

Thank you to Henry Kelsey SPS for welcoming us so generously—and for sharing your leadership journey with such honesty and clarity.
