Workplace Communication Skills for Educators

Based on the Colleges Ontario Occupation Specific Language Training framework, the Workplace Communication Skills for Educators course supports internationally trained and practiced educators to develop effective communication skills for Ontario-based education service contexts.

As a learner in this course, you will develop cultural-linguistic awareness and competence to effectively plan and implement learning experiences as well as evaluate and communicate their outcomes with various stakeholders such as students, families, colleagues, administrators, and community partners. Through various communication activities, dialogue practice, role-play and simulation, you will develop communication skills and strategies for cultivating collaborative relationships with various stakeholders in your workplace and develop skills and strategies for ongoing professional learning and career development in the sector.

Learning Outcomes

Learners who successfully complete the course will have demonstrated the ability to: 

  1. Effectively communicate (verbal, written) with varied education systems stakeholders (e.g., students, families, colleagues, administrators, community partners, etc.) 

  1. Effectively plan and implement learning experiences as well as evaluate and communicate their outcomes with varied audiences   

  1. Effectively utilize technologies to optimize the teaching & learning environment  

  1. Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders and cultivate shared leadership in the teaching & learning environment 

  1. Develop strategies for ongoing professional learning, networking, and career development
