Post-Secondary Teaching & Learning: Instructional Strategies and Engagement Trends and Issues

In this six-week, fully online course, you'll explore what it takes to create supportive, student-centered teaching and learning environments in post-secondary education. You'll examine the link between student well-being and effective learning, and identify common barriers that impact both.

Through inquiry-based and collaborative activities—including a learning walk at your institution—you'll assess how student-centered practices show up in real settings. You'll also explore evidence-based instructional strategies and apply them in designing a learning program that promotes meaningful teaching and learning. Along the way, you'll consider how various professional roles across campus contribute to student success and help foster the conditions that make impactful learning possible.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, you will have demonstrated the ability to:

  • Evaluate your campus environment for evidence of student-centered teaching and learning practices. 
  • Identify key conditions for effective learning, including student readiness, instructor competencies, and environmental factors. 
  • Design a learning program using instructional strategies that support effective teaching and learning.
  • Explain how different roles and processes across campus contribute to supportive learning environments. 
  • Analyze barriers to effective teaching and learning, and identify opportunities for collaborative solutions.
