History - Senior

In the Senior Division History Additional Qualification Course at OISE, candidates will examine the teaching of history at the senior level in the 21st Century.

Particular attention will be given to understanding the challenges facing educators in an educational environment that is constantly changing. This AQ will examine traditional pedagogies while exploring the role technology plays in the 21st Century classroom. As a group we will re-imagine the classroom to create an environment that encourages critical thinking and inquiry while simultaneously reinforcing our students' role in an ever changing society and preparing them for the next step in their educational careers.

Prerequisites

  1. Certificate of Qualification:
    Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.
  2. Post-Secondary Education:

    Must hold an acceptable post-secondary degree or equivalent qualifications.

  3. 2 Full University Degree Credits in the Subject:
    Official transcript(s) showing proof of successful completion of a minimum of 2.0 university degree credits or the equivalent in the teaching subject.

PLEASE NOTE:

1.0 university degree credits is the equivalent to 1 full year course, or, 2 half-year courses.

Recommendations

Successful completion is a final grade of C-

Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.

This session will run for 7 weeks. Your learning will take the form of in-depth online discussions as well as group and individual assignments.

Learners will be expected to engage in approximately 18 hours of learning per week for a total of 125 hours.
