Essential Leadership in Education

Develop the leadership mindset and skills needed to build strong, inclusive school communities.

This course focuses on how leadership is carried out in everyday school contexts, through conversations, decisions, and collaboration with others.

Examine leadership frameworks that support equity, shared decision-making, and a positive school culture. Apply your learning through case scenarios and practice-based activities focused on navigating diverse challenges in real school settings.

By the end of this course, you will be prepared to lead with greater clarity and confidence, using practical approaches to collaboration, decision-making, and building inclusive school communities.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Lead collaboration with staff, students, and stakeholders to strengthen relationships and shared work
  • Make informed decisions in complex situations using sound professional judgment
  • Develop and apply your own leadership approach to support shared direction, trust, and accountability
  • Apply an understanding of identity, power, privilege, oppression, and anti-racism in leading inclusive and responsive school communities
  • Use key leadership frameworks to guide decisions and actions in your school context

Recommendations

Upon successful completion of all three courses, you will be issued a digital Certificate of Completion from OISE Continuing and Professional Learning at the University of Toronto.
