English - Senior

This course provides the teacher with the opportunity to explore the pedagogical and content knowledge necessary to develop and deliver a dynamic and engaging English program for students in grades 11 and 12.

Course readings, discussions, activities and projects will support candidates in developing teaching and learning strategies in the context of current assessment and evaluation practices and help in addressing the diverse needs of Senior English students at all levels.

Prerequisites

1. Certificate of Qualification:
Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

2. Post-Secondary Education:

Must hold an acceptable post-secondary degree or equivalent qualifications.

3 Full University Degree Credits in the Subject:
Official transcript(s) showing proof of successful completion of 3.0 university degree credits in English.

Note: some Drama and Creative Writing courses may be accepted, but at least 1.0 credits must be ENGLISH coded.

PLEASE NOTE:

1.0 university degree credits is the equivalent to 1 full year course, or, 2 half-year courses.

Recommendations

Successful completion is a final grade of C-

Upon successful completion of the course,a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.

This session will run intensely for 3 weeks. Your learning will take the form of in-depth online discussions, readings, videos in a facilitator paced asynchronous course.

Learners will be expected to engage in approximately 42 hours of learning per week for a total of 125 hours:

  • 100 hours online learning (asynchronous, but facilitator-led and paced into modules)
  • 25 hours assignments and independent study
