The aim of this course is for you to acquire a more detailed understanding of crisis, to know what is helpful and to know how to apply the principles, assumptions and techniques of the Solution-Focused brief therapy approach.
This course not only shows you how to defuse a crisis, but how to move the client out of the situation and towards a solution; a unique new step in crisis intervention. By participating in this course you will develop sufficient self-awareness that your own reaction to the client or the circumstances will no longer interfere in the process. The learner will be trained in the key factors that influence crisis and anger. They will then be given the opportunity to practice the skills required to successfully engage the client/patient.
At the end of this process not only will learners understand crisis and how to effectively intervene but they will have broadened their understanding of solution-focused brief therapy counselling and how to apply it in difficult, complicated circumstances.
Learners will learn and integrate this approach through the use of; lecture, discussion, class participation, audio-video illustrations, role playing, demonstration of a simulated crisis situation and post testing.
