2018 Learning Tour Sessional Facilitator

Beryl Cohen is a K-12 Learning Coach and was a founding teacher of Karen Kain School of the Arts (TDSB). She serves as Co-President of the Ontario Art Education Association (OAEA). She holds a M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction (visual arts focus) at Western University, were she was awarded the W.A. Townshend Gold Medal in Education. Beryl’s interests include participatory arts-based education, eco-art, STEAM, and arts-based methods of research. For the Ontario Ministry of Education, she has written, edited, and overseen a number of projects for Visual Arts with a focus on Literacy, Environmental Education, Differentiated Instruction, Financial Literacy and others.  Beryl has presented at a number of conferences and workshops, including OAEA, OSEE, the annual Ministry of Education and Faculty of Education forum, and the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario’s Summer Institute. In 2016 she was awarded the Canadian Elementary Art Educator of the year from the Canadian Society for Education through Art.

All Additional Qualifications are subject to an application process, which at minimum require participants to be certified with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). Participants who successfully complete all class components of the Additional Qualification Course will receive a recommendation to the OCT. Educators who are not certified with OCT, or do not meet the additional qualification application requirements, may register for the certificate courses and receive a recognition of achievement upon successful completion.
